WORKERS' COMPENSATION
Workers' compensation laws were created in order to provide for the timely payment of medical expenses, lost wages and, where appropriate, compensation for various forms of permanent disability to workers sustaining injuries in the course of their employment, or contracting occupational diseases as a result of industrial exposures or repetitive trauma.
Unfortunately, ever-increasing regulation and bureaucracy have in many instances brought about lengthy delays in the payment of those benefits, and many times injured workers are just not made aware of the full range of benefits to which they may be entitled.
The attorneys of Finkelmeier & Farrell are OSBA Board Certified Specialists in workers' compensation, with vast experience in handling claims for all types of compensation under the Ohio workers' compensation law. In order to become board certified in workers' compensation, an attorney must demonstrate substantial and continuing involvement in that field, obtain the recommendations of his peers, maintain a prescribed minimum number of hours of advanced continuing legal education, and pass a written examination.
SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY
Individuals who have a serious disability or illness which prevents them from performing substantial gainful work activity for a period of six months, with the expectation of an inability to return to work for a period of twelve months or more, may be eligible for Social Security Disability benefits or, in the alternative, Supplemental Security Income benefits, in instances where they do not have the requisite quarters of coverage under the Social Security law.
Often claims for Social Security Disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income benefits
are denied merely because the Social Security Administration has not been provided the necessary medical documentation to establish disability. At Finkelmeier & Farrell, we have
had extensive experience representing clients at all stages of a Social Security Disability claim for benefits, including the perfection of appeals, securing necessary medical evidence and documentation, appearance at administrative hearings, and pursuit of appeals to federal court.

Our firm has been the Cincinnati representative on the National Football League Players Association Workers' Compensation Panel since its inception in the early 1980's. The NFLPA Workers' Compensation Panel is a group of attorneys of proven ability and expertise
in the area of workers' compensation selected from each NFL city to represent NFL players in connection with injuries sustained in the course and scope of their employment.
Workers' compensation claims involving professional athletes are extremely complicated, due
to the interrelationship between the players' contract, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFLPA and Management Council, and the workers' compensation laws applicable
in each state. Subsequently, we have also become a member of the Professional Hockey Players Association and Professional Lacrosse Players Association Workers' Compensation Panels. We have successfully represented numerous professional athletes in pursuit of their claims for workers' compensation benefits.
